Olga Iris Lopez, 36, of Pequot Lane, was found dead around 5:49 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, after Stamford police and medical rescue personnel were called to the home where she was found unconscious and unresponsive lying on the living room floor, said Stamford Police Capt. Richard Conklin.

A witness statement on scene attributed Lopez’s condition to her tendency to trip and fall and her recent drinking. Lopez was given emergency care and transported to Stamford Hospital.

Through the course of Lopez’s ongoing medical care, officers learned that Lopez had a significant brain bleed and that she had extensive bruising throughout her body, Conklin said.

Lopez was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit and died the following morning.

The Stamford Police Major Crimes Unit initiated an immediate investigation and is determining the circumstances of her death.

The preliminary investigation has resulted in the arrest of Hector Lopez, aka Hector Collazzo.

Lopez was charged with cruelty to persons for withholding medical care for his wife, police said.

Lopez is being held by the Department of Corrections on a $250,000 bond.

Olga and Hector Lopez have three children. These children are in the custody of the Department of Children and Families.

The State Office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy Wednesday. The manner and cause of death is pending.

This is an ongoing investigation and Major Crime Investigators would like to speak with anyone that has information about the events that led to the death of Olga Lopez.

Investigators would also like to speak with anyone that has information regarding any previous reported or non-reported incidents of family violence involving the couple.

Anyone with information should contact Sgt. Chris Broems or Investigator Damien Rosa at 203-977-4420. Callers can remain confidential.
